“I revealed myself to those who did not ask for me; I was found by those who did not seek me. To a nation that did not call on my name, I said, ‘Here am I, here am I.’ All day long I have held out my hands to an obstinate people, who walk in ways not good, pursuing their own imaginations-a people who continually provoke me to my very face," (Isaiah 65: 1-3)
What hope this passage provides. Salvation, the greatest of all thing's mankind needs. The true treasure our hearts all ultimately need. The only thing that can fill the emptiness in each of our lives, not only cannot be achieved by anything in us, earned by anything we could do, or bought by any amount of earthly wealth. It is fully dependent on God's grace to obtain.
"For it is by grace you have been saved, through faith—and this is not from yourselves, it is the gift of God—not by works, so that no one can boast." (Ephesians 2:8-9)
When we look at most of the world today, we see the rebellion of man against God in many different forms. Communism, Islamism and Rainbowism, are three global movements (although the latter seems mostly to be infecting Western nations) which seem designed by Satan to specifically keep people from seeking and worshipping God. They each encourage godlessness or the worship of a false god who cannot save souls from eternal damnation. They provoke God.
Of course it is not only these three movements. As well as being obstinate, mankind is very inventive and finds all sorts of other ways to "walk in ways not good, pursuing their own imaginations", to attempt to fill the void in their hearts which only Jesus can fill.
Self-worship, money worship, ancestor worship, science worship, etc. can all be used to prevent people from asking for God, seeking God, or calling on God's name for help.
But thankfully, God does not give up on His people. No matter how hard their heart, no matter how obstinate, how sinful, God will break through all of it, and through His Holy Spirit will soften the most obstinate of us. He will reveal Himself to those not asking for Him and will be found by those who did not seek Him.
Jesus triumphs. So, don't give up on your loved ones. Don't give up on your neighbour. Don't give up on the world.
"Then one of the elders said to me, “Do not weep! See, the Lion of the tribe of Judah, the Root of David, has triumphed. He is able to open the scroll and its seven seals.” (Revelation 5:5)
