God our Protector

God our Protector

“Because the poor are plundered and the needy groan, I will now arise,” says the LORD. “I will protect them from those who malign them.” (Psalm 12:5)

God is our Father God (Matthew 6:9). Earthly fathers have an in-built "protector" mode, and mothers too of course, especially when our children are young. This is not surprising because after all we are made in the image of God.

This is also evident in many animals. I experienced this God-given instinct up close in 2010 when the small boat I was in with my family surprised a very protective male elephant and his family hidden behind some reeds. He very loudly made it clear that we had ventured way too close and could go no closer! We had no choice other than to retreat as fast as we could!

As effective a protector as this elephant was that day, God's people can take comfort that our Father God is our protector, and absolutely nothing can come to pass apart from His permitting it, and all that for our good (Romans 8:28).

"But let all who take refuge in you rejoice; let them ever sing for joy. Spread your protection over them, so that those who love your name may exult in you." (Psalm 5:11)
