The Greatest Refuge

The Greatest Refuge

"Whoever dwells in the shelter of the Most High will rest in the shadow of the Almighty. I will say of the LORD, “He is my refuge and my fortress, my God, in whom I trust.” Surely he will save you from the fowler’s snare and from the deadly pestilence." (Psalm 91:1-3)

Early in the year 2020 the world experienced the spread of the COVID-19 virus around the world. The early stages, of what quickly became a global pandemic, saw high numbers of deaths, especially among the elderly.

The media reports coming out of countries such as Italy spread fear around the world. Billions of people suddenly had their lives disrupted and were confronted with the grim reality that they or their loved ones may be about to die.

Where do we find refuge in such a situation? Many people turned to their governments, to the medical experts, to their community leaders. Some found temporary refuge in short-term solutions like entertainment, online shopping, alcohol or food.

At best all of these things only provide temporary relief. True and lasting rest is only to be found in God. There is only one name given to men, women and children by which they may be saved (Acts 4:12).

This is great news as it means there is a way of salvation, there is a way of being saved. There is a place of shelter, a refuge where we can find lasting rest, peace and life.

No matter what governments or anyone else does, we are all destined to experience earthly death. There is simply no escaping this reality, no matter how much we try to ignore it. We are going to die and so are our loved ones. Whether it is by a coronavirus or other pandemics, firestorm, cancer, heart attack or some unexpected accident.

So this reality that there is a way of salvation, somewhere where we can take refuge and find a cure or vaccine for eternal death, is the greatest news.

Jesus Christ is that Saviour. Put your trust in Him. Ask Him into your life today and find true rest as you shelter from life's storms and eventual earthly death.
