Letter to Orbus Supporters from Craig Manners. February 2023
Dear Friends,
From small beginnings have a look (at the link below), what God has done with Orbus!
Most of you receiving this email have been involved in the "Orbus Project" for a very long time as a financial or prayer supporter or both or as a much-appreciated encourager. Please take your time in browsing through these photos (from my son Caleb and I in February 2023) and think back to the early days and give thanks to God for what He has done.
God has done this, but He uses means, and that includes you. So, praise God for your involvement and the blessing you have been to countless people in ways we will not be aware of until we are in glory with Christ.
Over 550 students, 130+ orphans and vulnerable children (OVC) currently receiving a free education from kindy through to the end of secondary, 45 local teachers and staff supporting hundreds of family members, hundreds of meals prepared and served onsite every day, 200 boarders, sporting teams, five Orbus choirs (listen to one of them here), students going on excursions, the Orbus CCAP Church with over 250 people now attending, an Orbus CCAP Women's Guild, fruit trees providing after school snacks for the students, wells producing fresh water for free, a farm producing crops of maize and vegetables... All from a project which has been financially self-supporting for over 2 years!
Walking around Orbus on any day during school is special, but also after school. A real community has developed. Over 200 people living on site. Students playing sports, reading and studying under trees, choirs practicing around the site singing Christian songs and hymns, students taking rostered responsibility for cleaning the school, washing clothes and dishes at the Augustine Gardens and Well, the Orbus Suzuki Jimny taking students to the nearby clinic, food being delivered and prepared... there is much activity.
Please stop after you have looked through the photo albums and give thanks to God for what He has done, for allowing us all to be a part of it and ask Him for the privilege of being used even further to bless this community in Malawi.
Orbus is an ongoing opportunity to directly help people in need in the name of Jesus. There are many things the supporters of Orbus can keep doing in Malawi, with a few suggestions listed here. One of the next priority areas is the building of a community multi-purpose hall for school use and also to rent out to the community for functions, closely followed by the need for another one or two boarding buildings.
There is a sincere sense of gratitude among the students (especially the OVC I spoke with), the teachers and staff and the Synod for everything that Orbus Australia has done. I pass on this gratitude to you and add to it my own personal thanks for you and your involvement over so many years.
