Orbus Ministries Australia Inc. (ABN 14 458 768 638), an Australian registered charity, is a Public Benevolent Institution endorsed as a Deductible Gift Recipient (DGR).
As part of Orbus’ involvement in providing relief and development in Malawi, Central Africa, our primary focus to date has been to partner with locals to help underprivileged children through assisting with the provision of education and skills development initiatives.
Orbus hopes to develop new educational and enterprise initiatives in Malawi and invites donors to partner with them to do so.
Orbus had its beginnings in 2007 with the establishment of a ministry to AIDS orphans in Malawi. Orbus Australia have established and supports the CCAP Orbus Mission Primary and Secondary Schools in Ngumbe, Malawi, has planted hundreds of trees, assisted nearby villages with the provision of new water wells and pumps, built new homes for orphan families, as well as conducting general intermittent community orphan care as resources become available.
We are a Partner Mission Agency of Australian Presbyterian World Mission (APWM) and are governed by a board of five based in Melbourne, Australia.
As a volunteer charity there are no high administration costs and nearly 100% of donated funds are used directly for ministry purposes. Historically there have been no fund-raising costs, no wages, fees, travel or related expenses paid for any Orbus Ministries Australia Inc. management, board members or any Australian volunteers from general donations. However, donations can be made to cover specific expenses, and it is probable that as the charity continues to grow a paid worker may be required.
Orbus Ministries Australia Inc. have successfully partnered with the Church of Central Africa Presbyterian (CCAP) - Blantyre Synod since 2010. The Synod operate, oversee and manage the Orbus schools through their Education Office under the current leadership of Moses Kasitomu. We are very grateful for this partnership and for the way it has been so effective and fruitful.
Please feel free to contact any board member or the Australian CEO/Manager for Orbus, Craig Manners, regarding volunteering or donating at [email protected] or [email protected]
We invite you to distribute and promote our Future Projects presentation, PDF Brochure and/or newsletters and place some copies in your church or work.
The word Orbus comes from the Armenian word orb (-oy, -oc) meaning "orphan, fatherless (child)." From this comes (h) orbos, from which the Latin word Orbus is derived, with the modern meaning: "underprivileged, disadvantaged, neglected, defenseless, impoverished, vulnerable, needy, poor, orphan, bereaved, childless and destitute."
Our logo depicts the vision of Orbus, which is to stand alongside and help the weak, vulnerable and poor, especially children who have lost one or both of their natural protectors. The logo depicts three vertical Christian "fish" symbols, with the one in the centre representing an orphaned child and the two either side of that child representing people who have come forward to protect and love that child, in the name of Jesus.
