Choose Wisely
"But my people have exchanged their glorious God for worthless idols." (Jeremiah 2:11)
Would you ever choose a broken cistern that cannot hold water over one that is not only intact but will never run dry? Of course not. Why would we do that? But that is exactly what we do when we rebel against the one who made us, and loves us, and provides for us, and we instead choose false idols which have no power and cannot help us.
"The idols of the nations are silver and gold, made by human hands. They have mouths, but cannot speak, eyes, but cannot see. They have ears, but cannot hear, nor is there breath in their mouths. Those who make them will be like them, and so will all who trust in them. (Psalm 135:15-18)
"Be appalled at this, you heavens, and shudder with great horror,” declares the Lord. “My people have committed two sins: They have forsaken me, the spring of living water, and have dug their own cisterns, broken cisterns that cannot hold water." (Jeremiah 2:12-14)
If we choose fake over real, false over true, temporary over eternal, man over God we cannot expect things will work out well for us. "Lions have roared; they have growled at him. They have laid waste his land; his towns are burned and deserted." (Jeremiah 2:15)
Choose wisely!
