In Safe Hands.
"Be strong and courageous. Do not be afraid or terrified because of them, for the LORD your God goes with you; he will never leave you nor forsake you.” (Deuteronomy 31:6)
God tells His people hundreds of times in the Bible, "Do not fear." No doubt He does this because He knows we are prone to be fearful. This fear often comes when we take our eyes off God.
Why should we fear when our Lord Jesus, the one by whose name we call ourselves, the one and only name by which people can be saved (Acts 4:12), has told us, “All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to me." "And surely I am with you always, to the very end of the age.” (Matthew 28:18,20)
Some types of fear are God given and are good for us, such as a fear of touching fire, of willfully behaving in a way which leads to harm, or fear of disobeying our good and loving God, but the type of fear in this passage, a sort of paralyzing terror is akin to doubting rather than trusting in God. It is not helpful for God's people.
Maybe it is a bit like having a powerful weapon which can defeat your enemies in battle, yet you remain fearful, terrified that it may not work. The solution is to maintain the weapon and practice everyday so it will work and work well. Likewise, we need to maintain a close and living relationship with God to alleviate our tendency toward being fearful. Bible reading and prayer help maintain that relationship and keeps fear away.
If your trust is in Christ Jesus, there is no need to fear. This type of fear is an idol in a way, it cannot help us, it only harms us. It is an unnecessary emotion which steals our time, energy and focus away from living close to God.
Coming to the conscious realization that we are in incredibly safe hands with our God, allows us to receive peace. If you find yourself despairing of life's many struggles, unable to sleep because of them, remind yourself that you are not alone. Your God is with you and will never leave you. He is all powerful and fully in control. He knows what He is doing. Keep your eyes on Him. Trust Him all the way. Fear not!
